Kid Everest is a crowdfunding website with a unique audience: kids. Unlike popular crowdfunding websites like GoFundMe or Kickstarter, Kid Everest is made with children in mind from start to finish – particularly in terms of security. The website is COPPA Compliant ( https://kideverest.com/coppa-compliance/), funneling new users through an age gate and making sure that parents are involved in account creation and management at multiple steps. Any accounts must be linked by an adult before a child can begin funding their campaigns.
But what child wouldn’t love to get Grandma and Grandpa to donate towards their lemonade stand?
Trisha Katkin approached me in July 2019. Her website was partially created, but she needed assistance to get IgnitionDeck (the software behind most of the crowdfunding application) to work properly. We worked together to discuss the technical requirements and establish the Age Gate and other screens.
Trisha has written many extremely educational blogs about the journey of an entrepeneur and everything children need to know to successfully (and safely) fund their campaigns.
Due to budget constraints and IgnitionDeck limitations we have not been able to customize the site’s workflow as much as we hoped, but we continue to discuss ways to improve the website. Trisha’s hope is that one day schools will get involved in this project. Kid Everest hopes to mentor and educate kidpreneurs to help them see their campaigns succeed.
